Many folks don’t realize how much your home’s immediate surroundings can have a major impact on your carpet. Approximately 75% of people admit that they’ll walk on carpeting while wearing outdoor shoes.
If there are leaves, debris, dirt, or mud on your front or back porches, that mess can easily be tracked inside by family members and guests. Keep these areas clear with a broom and consider putting down some outdoor mats.
Mats are great because they provide an area for people to kick off the grime from their shoes before they come inside and lay a foot on your carpet.
It’s good to get in the habit of taking off your shoes at the entryway before coming inside your house to protect your carpet, but it’s also important to create a plan for your pets.
When coming in from a walk, your dog may have dirt on their paws and that dirt can easily turn into mud during the winter months.
Get in the habit of having your dog wait just inside the door while you get a cloth to wipe their feet and, in some cases, their fur. Longer dog hair can drag along the ground or brush up against bushes and trees.
It’s recommended to vacuum your home’s carpet at least twice a week, or more if you have a pet. But sometimes vacuuming may not be enough when it comes to keeping your carpet as clean as possible during the winter months.
